These two databases, one specific and one very broad, are particularly useful for research in nursing topics. CINAHL (the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature) offers indexing for more than 3,000 nursing and allied health journals. PubMed, a free resource maintained by the National Center for Biotechnology Information at the U.S. National Library of Medicine at the National Institutes of Health, provides more than 26 million citations, many with abstracts, from MEDLINE, life science journals, e-books and web sites. Including the fields of biomedicine and health, topics covered include biomedical sciences, life sciences, behavioral sciences, and chemical sciences, and biomedical engineering. PubMed is useful for getting an overview of an array of resources on a topic.
