Native Voices: Native Peoples’ Concepts of Health and Illness: Celebrate Dakota! MERG

An interactive exhibition brought to you by the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM), the American Library Association (ALA) Public Programs Office, and Mayo Clinic.

Celebrate Dakota! MERG: a Mayo Employee Resource Group

Who are we? Celebrate Dakota members are made-up of Mayo Clinic Employees of Native American Heritage and Non-Native Allies. Above all, we consider ourselves as goodwill ambassadors dedicated to providing a welcoming environment for employees and patients of Dakota and other Native American heritages at Mayo Clinic Rochester.

Mission: Dakota translates in English to “allies”. To that end, we seek to promote, educate, and celebrate Minnesota's Dakota history, traditions, and culture at Mayo Clinic and within the Rochester community.

Purpose: Celebrate Dakota! members will sponsor and coordinate activities, and will serve as a resource group to assist the Mayo Clinic staff and community in understanding the Dakota and other indigenous cultures previously and currently living in this area.

Membership: All Mayo Clinic students, staff, and faculty who seek to learn, enjoy, or nurture the history, spirituality, traditions, and culture of Dakota people are welcome in the Celebrate Dakota! MERG.

Graciously sponsored by the Office of Diversity and Inclusion
