This guide explains the significance and history of the names painted on the ceiling of the central area of the 12th floor Plummer Library. 

Plummer Library is the largest of Mayo’s private staff libraries with extensive resources, services and spaces available for onsite study and research. The Plummer Library acquires current resources, primarily electronic, which support the clinical, research, educational, and administrative needs of Mayo employees and students. Subject coverage includes the entirety of medicine and all subspecialties,  research and methodological literature, nursing and allied health literature, and health administration and management literature. The traditional and electronic collections emphasize current, point-of-care needs and include over 4,000 electronic journals and hundreds of databases and electronic books.

Other Plummer Building library and archive locations include: W. Bruce Fye History of Medicine Library and rare book collections on the 15^th floor; reading room and computer lab on the 14^th floor; Mayo Clinic Bookstore on the 11^th floor; and W. Bruce Fye Center For the History of Medicine on the 3^rd floor.

Borrowing Privileges
Material from the open-stack collection may be borrowed by all Mayo staff, residents, interns, medical students, paramedical personnel, and health-related sciences trainees.

Document Delivery Privileges
All Mayo staff with LAN IDs and passwords can use Document Delivery to receive copies of journal articles and book chapters.

Loan Policies

• Journals: 1 week loan, option for an additional 1 week renewal
• Books: 6 week loan, option for an additional 6 week renewal
• AV Materials: 2 week loan, option for an additional 2 week renewal

Plummer Library Amenities

• Computers - Dual Monitor PC Workstations -
  • 12th floor: 28 in Mayo Hall, 6 in the south wing, and 8 in the north wing. 
  • 14th floor: 12 in the computer lab.
• Laptops: Available for 24 hour checkout at the Circulation Desk.
• DVD Viewing - 12th floor: Ask at Circulation Desk for a portable DVD drive to connect to a PC.
• E-mail Access - Available on all computers: 12th, and 14th floors.
• Fax Service- Ask for assistance at the Circulation Desk.
• Study Rooms- Reservation system available to all Mayo groups or first come first serve if not reserved.
• Microsoft Product Access - Available on all computers: 12th, and 14th floors. 
• Self-Service Copying- Available on Plummer 12.
• Self-Service Scanning- Available on Plummer 12.
• Printing - Located in PL12 North Alcove.

Food and drinks are not allowed in the Plummer 14 Reading Room. There are break rooms on floors 2, 3, 11, and 14 (all with microwaves and some with refrigerators) if needed.

I.D.s must be visible at all times while in the library.  If you’re not wearing a Mayo photo ID, please stop at the Plummer 12 Circulation Desk.

Unattended items left at a computer for more than 15 minutes may be subject to removal if the computer is needed by another library patron.
