Beginning December 2nd, Systematic Review searches will be submitted using an updated version of the library’s request form. This updated form will simplify the online form process and require a protocol attachment which will ensure that all the information we need to help with your search is submitted at once.
The Mayo Clinic Libraries offer comprehensive literature searching services, including a popular Systematic Review Service. In response to the changing needs of our researchers, we are expanding the scope of our Systematic Review Service to become an Evidence Synthesis Service. This new name and broader selection of search methods will offer library users a wider range of possibilities when selecting their review type.
Evidence synthesis encompasses more than just systematic reviews, meta-analyses and scoping reviews. The evolving review family also includes rapid reviews, umbrella reviews and a host of other qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods review types. What these all have in common is the use of a transparent methodology for identifying, selecting, assessing, and analyzing studies, as well as evaluating the strength of the evidence to answer specific research questions (see our Evidence Synthesis Guide for more information). By updating the name of our service, we are more accurately reflecting the multiple review types available to authors.
The Evidence Synthesis Service aims to connect research teams with skilled searchers. Studies show that partnering with librarians early in the process benefits research teams and results in significantly higher quality search strategies. Higher quality searches also reduce the risk of missing relevant studies and introducing additional bias.
In June of 2024, a new Evidence Synthesis Service Policy was approved by the Mayo Clinic Education Committee. The policy defines who the principal investigator is and sets expectations for the partnering librarian role as well as the research team.
The Mayo Clinic Libraries are excited to begin offering this expanded Evidence Synthesis Service on December 2nd, 2024. Existing links and forms will be redirected to the updated request process, and librarians will begin using the new process to assist you with your research. If you have any questions about this change, email library@mayo.edu.
