The W. Bruce Fye Center for the History of Medicine is pleased to announce the opening of a new exhibit showcasing the discovery of cortisone at Mayo Clinic. It will be on display in the Plummer 12 Library beginning Wednesday, September 28th. The exhibit highlights documents, photographs, and artifacts connected to the discovery of cortisone and the subsequent Nobel Prize win in 1950.

Curated by the W. Bruce Fye Center for the History of Medicine, this exhibit is part of a rotating series. It will run through March 31, 2023 and is open to all Mayo staff, students and volunteers. An online version of the exhibit can be viewed at https://libraryguides.mayo.edu/historicalunit/cortisone.

The original Nobel Prize medallions awarded to Drs. Kendall and Hench and other cortisone-related artifacts are also on display in the Historical Suite on the third floor of the Plummer Building. The Suite is open to staff, students, volunteers and patients Monday through Friday from 9am-4pm.
