Mayo Clinic considers plagiarism to be scientific misconduct and subject to disciplinary action. Recognizing the negative impact of plagiarism on the careers of employees and students and on the reputation of the institution, the Mayo Clinic Board of Governors approved a plan and process involving education to avoid plagiarism and the use of text matching software to help Mayo authors identify potential problem areas in their manuscripts before submission for publication.

The Section of Scientific Publications was identified as the Mayo Clinic unit responsible for implementation of the plan. They have developed a website which includes links to resources and information on Mayo's text-matching software

Suspected scientific misconduct at Mayo Clinic is governed by the Research Policy Manual which conforms to the Office of Research Integrity process and other federal policy guidelines.
