Mayo Clinic Libraries recently added a subscription to Social Explorer, a data mapping tool featuring curated datasets focused on Public Health, Business, Education, Psychology, and Sociology.
Social Explorer provides easy access to many datasets, including the United States Census, American Community Survey, CDC Cancer, USDA Agriculture Census, and US Health data. Users can select datasets and create faceted maps based on that data. Map images and data can be exported for use in presentations and publications. Training materials, quick-start guides, and suggestions for incorporating these data sets into curriculum are available in the extensive guide system.
Access to Social Explorer is available to all Mayo Clinic staff and learners via this direct link or the database list on the library homepage. You may be prompted to log in with your LANID if working offsite. To create projects, build your own maps and reports within Social Explorer, sign up for an account using your Mayo email address.
For questions about Social Explorer or any other library-related questions, email library@mayo.edu or call 507-284-2061.
