A new exhibit titled “Top Secret: Mayo Aeromedicine and Operation Paperclip” is now on display in the Plummer 12 Library in Rochester. The exhibit was curated by staff of the W. Bruce Fye Center for the History of Medicine and tells the story of the Mayo Aero Medical Unit during WWII. The exhibit also explores Dr. Edward J. Baldes’ work in postwar Germany with Operation Paperclip, a secret U.S. government program that recovered important research and recruited German scientists. The “Top Secret” exhibit features aeromedical artifacts, historical photographs, and newly translated archival documents and will be on display through March 2024.
The exhibit is part of a rotating series and is open to Mayo staff, students, and volunteers. Visit the Plummer 12 Library to see the exhibit. If you work outside Rochester or are working remotely, you can browse the exhibit virtually on the W. Bruce Fye Center’s website.
