Updates to Nomad Browser Plugin

by Matt Hoy on 2023-12-22T16:00:00-06:00 in About the Mayo Clinic Libraries | 0 Comments

The Nomad browser plugin is an article management tool that is installed on every Mayo PC in both Chrome and Edge browsers. When you visit a webpage containing a journal article, this plugin quickly and easily links you to Mayo Clinic Libraries subscriptions or helps you order the article via the Library’s Document Delivery Service.  The Nomad plugin has been in use at Mayo Clinic for over 3 years, and staff and learners routinely download over 50,000 articles a month using this tool.

On December 21st, the Nomad plugin was upgraded to Nomad++. Several new features were added, including:

  • Mayo Clinic Libraries specific branding, to make it easier to find the download button
  • An “export citation” button to easily add articles to EndNote or other citation managers
  • Notifications of updated editorial status: retracted articles will be flagged
  • Improved linking for non-article content like newspapers and magazines
  • In the near future, Cabell’s Predatory Reports will also integrate into Nomad to identify problem journals before citation or submission

These new features are available now. There is no need to install any additional software or make adjustments to your system. You will notice changes to the Nomad button as follows:

Clicking on the graduation cap icon will bring up the citation export menu:

Choosing any of these citation types will download a file containing the citation for the article currently on the screen in the selected format. Opening that file will import the article into your citation manager.
